Centennial Punches Ticket to State with 35–23 Win Over ALA–Queen Creek

With a trip to the 6A state championship on the line, Centennial and ALA–Queen Creek delivered a semifinal showdown that lived up to the moment. In a game defined by swings of momentum, clutch playmaking, and defensive grit, the Coyotes pulled away late for a 35–23 victory, securing their spot in next week’s title game.

ALA–QC came out strong, striking first and showing no signs of intimidation despite entering the night as the underdog and missing their starting quarterback. Centennial answered quickly, trading scores in a tight first half that showcased both teams’ offensive talent. The Patriots briefly retook the lead, but the Coyotes responded with poise, grabbing a 21–17 advantage heading into the locker room.

The turning point came late in the second quarter, when Centennial sophomore linebacker Aidan Torres jumped a route and returned an interception more than 70 yards for a touchdown. The play ignited the home crowd and completely shifted the energy of the game. From that moment on, Centennial held the momentum and never fully relinquished it.

Offensively, sophomore quarterback Titus Hill settled into a rhythm after a slow start, finishing the night with 212 passing yards and three touchdowns. His leadership and decision-making were crucial, especially as ALA–QC continued to challenge the Coyotes with creative looks and aggressive play.

With the Patriots still within striking distance in the fourth quarter, Hill delivered the dagger — a 65-yard strike to wide receiver Sebastian Moreno, who broke free down the sideline and sprinted untouched into the end zone. That score stretched the lead to 35–23, sealing the win and sending Centennial to the state championship

Defensively, Centennial tightened up in the second half, limiting big plays and controlling the pace after halftime. Head coach Andrew Taylor praised his team’s resilience and defensive discipline, emphasizing how crucial those adjustments were to closing out the win.

For ALA–Queen Creek, the loss ends a season highlighted by toughness and overachievement. Playing short-handed and fighting to the final whistle, the Patriots earned respect across the state for their competitive fire and unity. Their growth throughout the year sets a strong foundation for the program moving forward.

As for Centennial, the victory marks another step in a postseason run built on preparation, balance, and timely playmaking. The Coyotes now advance to the 6A state championship, where they’ll take on the Casteel Colts at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe. With confidence high and momentum on their side, the Coyotes enter the title game with a chance to cap off their season with a championship trophy.
