Yesterday, at CUSD media day, head football coach Joseph Ortiz of Perry High School stated that he feels his squad is the “most talented” that he has worked with during his 4 years at the helm at Perry. Coach Ortiz also stated that his team is “not where they want to be” after last year’s early playoff exit. Ortiz returns a very talented group of starters and some new additions via transfers which hope to elevate the Pumas to the next level. Perry returns talented gunslinger Kael Snyder to lead the offense in his second year starting at quarterback for Perry.

Snyder stated that the offense is “much improved” from last year’s team, adding transfer running back Isaiah McIver from Basha, an addition to an already loaded RB room that he will share with two way starter Talan Frazier and Vaun Patterson. Perry also will return sophomore wideout Amos Augustine and senior wideout Max Wendelschafer, two crucial receivers from last year's team. Perry also returns many leaders on the defensive side of the ball, including senior standouts Ricky Stewart, Justin Stella, and Sean Camping. The Pumas are looking forward to getting back on the gridiron and are eager to prove themselves under those Friday night lights. The Pumas open the year on the road up in Anthem to take on Boulder Creek and will then host San Diego powerhouse Granite Hills the following Saturday.
